The photo was taken in September of 2008 in Hanalei Bay on Kauai, the subject is my youngest son Marcus and his first marlin catch. Marcus’ invitation to go fishing came from family friends, and Marcus seized the opportunity. I wasn’t on board, so I don’t know the whole story of the catch…

I do know Marcus landed (with coaching) this magnificent fish, and it belonged to the boat, and was sold at docking to a local restaurant, who served it to diners that night. Hunt and gather! Had I known, I would have reserved a table!

The best thing about the photo is the composition and the feeling of pride I get when I look at it. Great trip, great kid, great fish, great photo.

A financial planner loaned us her copy about three years ago. I forgot to return it for a long time, and by the time I remembered, I was too embarrassed to return it. But when the author started selling his autographed new edition, I had it sent to the planner with an apology. She was quite happy and admitted wondering where her old copy had gone….
